In 1881, at age 15, Eloisa Diaz achieved to break down the prejudices and she took the exams to apply for university education, approving them. After that, she decided to enrolled in the Medicine School of the University of Chile, being one of the first women to enter a higher education institution in our country.
Her studying years were not exempt from problems, because Eloisa Diaz had to fight against the maleness of the time. In addition, she went to classes accompanied by her mother, possibly that was a very awkward situation for her and that was only because Eloisa couldn't stay in a place full of men alone.
However, she graduated in Medicine and Pharmaceutical on December 27th of 1886; a few months after, on January 3rd of 1887, she received her degree of surgeon.
The thesis that allowed her to obtain the title of doctor was called: "Brief observations on the appearance of puberty in Chilean women and the pathological predispositions of sex."
In 1910 Eloisa participated in Hygiene and Medicine International Scientific Congress in Buenos Aires, where she was named "Illustrious Woman of America".
Later she was named Director of the School Medical Service of Chile in 1911, where she implemented school breakfasts and mass vaccination of students, as well as campaigns to combat alcoholism, rickets and tuberculosis.
I really like her, because she always was a fighter for meet her goals, and after that she give everything of her for help the others, especially the children.
She was not only the first woman who became doctor, she was one of the first woman that challenged the society of his time, which makes her in a symbol of excellence for all chilean women in this maleness society.
Eloisa Diaz is completely extraordinary woman , because she study the carrer of Medicine no matter what difficult it was
